Over the past two days, I watched 3 films that I, overall, liked. As anyone who knew me would know, I'm obsessed with reviews. Suggest a film and my first response will either be "That has good reviews" or "That had TERRIBLE reviews". More often than not, they will be bad. But the following three films were quite enjoyable to me, and they are an eclectic mix:
Sophie's Choice
A classic film. This is the story of a man that moves into a boarding house and instantly befriends a strange couple-- a mysterious, beautiful Polish woman and a charismatic, but obviously troubled, man that she loves with all her heart and soul. The film is about the journey that the man takes into the woman's, Sophie's, past.
The film was deeply troubling. It was essentially a holocaust story, but from an unusual perspective, seeing as Sophie is blond and blue-eyed, and even Christian. But that isn't at all what the story is about. It's about love, and guilt, and sacrifice. It's difficult to describe the true message of the film without revealing what is about, but I can say that it was so terribly sad. A must-see.
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue
Before I begin my analysis of this Disney movie, I must admit that I am a great fan of Tinker Bell in general. I love the setting-- the splendid green nature, the sparkles, the cuteness galore.
This Tinker Bell movie started out with Tinker Bell going to "fairy camp" during the summer. However, quickly, she accidentally gets captured by some humans living nearby and befriends the little girl in the family. The movie is about Tinker Bell "fixing" (which is what all tinks do) the girl's relationship with her father, and Tinker Bell's friends coming to rescue her.
It was really quite lovely. There was an awesome sense of adventure, and good closure, and not too much sadness. Overall, a great family movie, and a good movie for anyone who loves Tink as much as I do :P
X-Men: First Class
I've watched every X-Men movie, and I thought they kind of went downhill... that is, until this one. The story was getting muddled and it was almost all about combat, not about their powers.
Well this film has good special effects, good story, good acting, good music... very exciting. Perhaps once I've digested it better, I'll be able to write a longer review, but for now, all I have to say is WATCH IT.
